what to expect at The Edge

In our pre-retreat coaching sessions, we will clarify why this retreat now, what your current relationship is to your growth edge and what you hope to achieve by making this investment in yourself. From there, I will design a personalized itinerary of activities - reflective of your values and your growth edge - to complement the daily personal development sessions. 

What will a day feel like? 

Growth happens in the tension between the expected and unexpected. We won't reach as far if we're feeling uncertain, and we won't root as far if we think we already know the terrain.

So everyday at The Edge will include routines you can count on as well as unexpected disruptions to the rhythm - enough to keep you grounded on your toes. 

Example daily itinerary

5:30a-6:30a Coffee/Tea/Juice and Fresh Fruit available for any early risers  
6:30-7:30a Poolside Workout / Yoga or lowtide beach walk w/ optional ice bath
7:30-9:30a Breakfast + Freshen 
9:30-11:30a Session One: The Call to Your Edge
11:30a-2:00p Lunch + Afternoon Recharge | 1:1 coaching available 

2:00-3:30p Session Two: The Wisdom at Your Edge
4:00-6:00p Sunset Horesback Ride 
6:00-8:00p Fresh, gourmet dinner at The Residence 

nourishment 

Breakfasts + Lunches will be prepared daily with fresh, local ingredients by Doris, a local chef beloved by the community for her wholesome cooking and creative innovations with traditional dishes. Based on the group's dietary needs, meals will be balanced with plant-based protein and jungle fruits + vegetables. There will be dishes you recognize and hopefully dishes that meet you at the edge of your pallet. 

Dinners will be prepared daily by Cristina, a Venezuelan ex-patriot who has lived all over the world and excels at innovative dishes that feature local ingredients in global cuisine. 

You can count on lots of fresh coconut, tropical fruits, jungle greens, fresh-caught seafood, meats raised by nearby farmers and variations on gallo pinto that will have you hooked on the power of rice and beans before you head home. 

development sessions

I have designed, developed and tested personal development content intended to help you clarify, articulate and transform personal blocks, personal goals and personal commitments that will expand your authentic expression. Sessions will be held together in small group workshop format, facilitated for personal reflection and the depth that can be found only through sharing and witnessing others' insights. Sessions will never be longer than 2 hours, always facilitated in dynamic reflection of the energetic needs of the group. If I may humbly assure you, I am masterful and dancing with the moment to adjust the agenda so that the group stays engaged and inspired by the work.

Each day has a different theme that the personal development sessions will reflect. Intentionally, the excursions or activities of the day will hold the space to experience, reflect on and deepen your insights in an embodied and indirect way.

Day One: Thresholds | What are you leaving behind + stepping towards as you kick-off this retreat? What are you on the precipice of in your leadership?
Day Two: Fault Lines | Where is there movement and tension that can be the source of transformation? What values, beliefs and habits are just beneath the surface causing disruption or shaping the landscape? 
Day Three: Stepping Up | What is it time for now in your life? What goals are calling you forward? What is the higher purpose you are ready to step up to? 
Day Four: Leading From The Edge | What changes do you need to prepare for as you go back into your life from this new level? What requests and commitments will you be accountable for? 

excursions

The daily activities I am building into your personalized itinerary are joyful, exciting and will ideally be new enough in any variety of factors to stretch your leadership. They are not 'extreme' in nature. This retreat is not about pushing you to your extreme limit, but rather creating the conditions of the correct amount of discomfort, challenge, fulfillment and elation to allow your intellectual and emotional insights to come alive through an indirect and physical experience.

The types of activities I will be choosing from for your itinerary: surf lesson; guided ATV adventure to a waterfall hike; horseback ride on the beach - or to a remote waterfall - or through an indigenous reserve; solo beach walk; dance lesson.

I will help you book or plan any additional activities you want for your free time or in any days you choose to add on to your trip!

Wellness 

I believe we grow into and from our next level of leadership only when our whole body is involved. It will be my greatest pleasure to curate your four days of what health & wellness need to mean for you while you are on this retreat.

Because Pavones is home to some of the most incredible instructors and trainers I have encountered in my life, choices will include guided or private meditation, yoga, pilates, strength training, boxing training, ice baths, beach walks (or runs) and most certainly rest.  

This time isn't about a "total transformation" - it is about allowing your next level of leadership to surface through consciously curated conditions. 

unguided time 

In a world where so many of our lives are dictated by our schedules to the minute, your time at The Edge will be structured with space. This retreat is more than a vacation, so the days are scheduled to move you towards an outcome. But you will see ample time around each meal; the scheduled excursion for a day may be unguided time. No matter what the itinerary looks like, there is no way to resist the luscious calling of the Pura Vida mindset; everything moves more slowly in Costa Rica requiring more time for all of it. That in itself may feel like an edge for you, and if so, bienvenidos. 

Pre + post coaching 

I want you to get the most out of this experience in exactly the way you need to. I believe that priming yourself for an experience like this allows you to arrive and sink it to it more effectively. I believe that being accountable to integrating your insights from the retreat into your real world is what sets this retreat apart from a 'one and done' experience to a truly transformative one. 

We will schedule two 1:1 coaching sessions prior to the retreat so I know where you're coming from in your leadership and what you hope to create for yourself by coming on the retreat. We will have one group coaching session and two 1:1 coaching sessions post retreat so you can be accountable for turning your insights into action and behavior change.
